Installing the Windows Subsystem For Linux (Ubuntu)

Enable WSL

Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux

If you get an error, it's either because you didn't run PowerShell as Administrator or are not running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Restart your computer when prompted.

Install Ubuntu

Click the following link to open the Ubuntu in the Windows Store:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/store/p/ubuntu/9nblggh4msv6?rtc=1

Select "get" and once the download has completed, select "Launch". This will open a console window.

Setup Ubuntu Account

Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to create your Ubuntu user account.

Create your Ubuntu username and password. This user account can be different from, and has no relationship to, your Windows username and password.
